2010 - 2011 STUDY CLUB INFORMATION:

NEXT SESSION:

THURSDAY, MARCH 31, 2011

Dr. Dean Morton presented by Straumann
1 – 5 pm (lunch provided)
Meeting will be held at Clarkson West Medical Center
2727 So. 144th Street – lower level conf. room 117

This course is designed for experienced clinicians wishing to introduce or expand early and immediate surgical and restorative procedures within their treatment offerings. The biologic basis and current evidence for accelerated placement and loading protocols will be discussed. Multidisciplinary assessment will be detailed, emphasizing functional and esthetic indications and contraindications, and pre-treatment risk analysis from a functional and esthetic perspective. Surgical considerations will center on minimally traumatic tooth extraction, flap versus flapless procedures, the concept of horizontal defect dimension, implant morphology and surface, and concurrent grafting procedures. Restorative discussions will include diagnostic procedures and treatment preparation, template fabrication, radiographic assessment, provisional restorations, and definitive restorative alternatives (metal ceramic, all ceramic and CAD/CAM). The esthetic and functional advantages and disadvantages of these procedures will be considered in accordance with treatment risk analysis.

Objectives:
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe indications and contraindications for accelerated treatment protocols
  • Discuss multidisciplinary patient and site assessment and appropriate implant selection for accelerated procedures in both non-esthetic and esthetic sites
  • Describe minimally traumatic extractions and modified surgical procedures
  • Discuss provisional and definitive restorations as they relate to accelerated protocols
  • Consider the biologic, esthetic and functional advantages of accelerated treatment protocols
  • Design and fabricate surgical templates and provisional restorations for single tooth restorations
  • Develop healthy peri-implant soft tissue through provisional restoration

THURSDAY, APRIL 28, 2011

OPTIONAL Follow-Up workshop to Dr. Dean Morton’s Lecture
Workshop led by Adam Bast with Straumann
5:30 – 8:30 pm (dinner provided)
Meeting to be held at Keiss Kraft Dental Laboratory
6601 South 118th Street – conference room
RSVP by Friday, April 22 to Amanda via email avisty@omfacialsurgery.com or fax 402-390-1074

In dental implant treatment, the provisional restoration is an integral component of the overall treatment plan, and is critical to providing an excellent esthetic final restoration. Many anterior cases require a provisional to contour and guide the gingival tissue, preparing the site for the final restoration. Evaluating esthetics of the anterior dentition, shaping and developing the perio-implant tissue/subgingival tissue, and the transfer of the appropriate data to the laboratory technician must be considered when creating provisional restorations. A provisional restoration must resemble the projected final restoration, while satisfying sound biologic and esthetic principles. Attendees will learn how to take customized impression procedures that transfer the emergence form, developed by the provisional, to the master cast and dental technician.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this program the participant will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of a provisional restoration, related to emergence profile and soft tissue management.
  • Fabricate contoured provisionals and customized impression copings.
  • Transfer necessary data to the laboratory for the final restoration.
