Facial Cosmetic Procedures > Laser Eyelid Lifts

Pre-Operative Instructions Post-Operative Instructions

Eyelids that don’t look natural and droop can make you look older and can impair your vision. Eyelid Surgery (blepharoplasty) removes puffiness and bags under the eyes that can make you look worn and tired. Not only do the eyes show signs of aging, often so do the brow and forehead. Often an endoscopic brow lift is also recommended to lift and smooth the brow. Eyelid surgery without brow correction may give minimal improvement or quick release. The procedure restores drooping brows to a more natural and youthful position and smoothes the horizontal lines and furrows that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired. The procedure overall provides a fresher, more rested appearance to the eyes and face.

Who Makes a Good Candidate?

Blepharoplasty removes the excess fat, muscle and skin from both the upper and lower lids.  During the pre-surgical consultation, you will be examined and asked to answer questions concerning vision and what you hope the surgery will accomplish.

During your consultation, Dr. Kuhn may use digital images of your face and profile. He will utilize image altering technology to work with you to develop and understand what may be possible. It is important to note that computer imaging gives an idea of the intended result but may not represent an exact outcome.

Understanding the Procedure:

In upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Kuhn first marks the individual lines and creases of the lids to keep the scars as invisible as possible.  Incisions are made with a laser, and excess fat, muscle and loose skin are removed by the laser.  Sutures are used to close the incisions.

In lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Kuhn makes the incision along the lashline and smile creases in the lower lid making it almost invisible. Eyelid puffiness caused primarily by excess fat may be corrected by a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. The incision in this case is made inside the lower eyelid. There are no scars on the skin in this type of surgery.

Simple and Safe Recovery.

After the surgery a tiny bandage is applied. The eyelids do not have to be covered. Ointment is used to prevent dryness of the eye area. A mild to moderate amount of swelling and bruising is normal. Permanent stitches can be removed five days after surgery.
